You are correct that Artco is not closing. It is true that a lot has changed at Artco over the past 2 years but we are making progress financially. I firmly believe that we have very good employees at Artco and I have the best intentions in wanting to see our employees succeed in their role. It was a great thing to see all our employees get pay raises again. This was a priority for us and it did not put our company at risk because we did this. It had been a long time for some employees and we were happy to be in a situation to bring this back.
It is also true that we are very focused on performance management. We need our employees to perform at a very high level and in order to grow our company and serve our customers, we will continue to have high standards and hold people accountable. We will not apologize for expecting our employees to perform at a high level but we also realize that we have to do a better job as management to provide an environment where you can be successful. We should never stop working on that goal.
We DO NOT HAVE A LIST OF EMPLOYEES that we have planned to terminate nor is termination a priority. We want people to perform at a high level and help our organization be successful. We hope that every employee will make this decision and continue to work here. We have never looked at our employees who have been here 10 years or longer and said we need to get rid of them. Our long term employees are valuable and can help our company continue to succeed. Whether someone has been here 1 year or 20 years, if they can perform at a high level, we want them here. If they cannot perform at a high level, we will do everything we can to help that employee get better. If they improve, we all win but if they do not improve, we have an obligation to address that situation as well.
I really appreciate all the comments that have been posted on this blog and it has helped me understand some of the areas that we need to improve on as a company. It has also shown me some employee perceptions that we need to address because there is a lot of false information posted throughout the site. I will try and help clarify this information going forward, both on this site and through our employee communications.
I truly do care about the opportunity and security of our employees. I am always willing to listen and respond to your concerns without any retaliation,
Aaron Lerwill
HR Director at Artco
gordon Rihger is a self righteous little baby that has had too much power too long. He walks around trying to find people talking and shows a lousy example of attitude. I am totally sick of his 5 year old style of pouting as he walks around the plant. When is the last time he contributed an idea that improved work conditions or a better process. He is not a mentor he has no business sense. He stiffles all of his managers. He does not know how to instill excellence and be a servent leader.
ReplyDeleteWow all I can say is, you hit the nail on the head with that one!!!
ReplyDeleteTo Aaron L. it was great of you to comment. I find it not surprising that you did not stick to the subjects at hand but but rambled off to areas you wanted to cover, while avoiding the issue's Maroon Hornet brought up. No where did he/she say anything about high performance being expected. Although there were other areas about cutting hrs, cutting people and other minor inconvenient items like that.
ReplyDeleteI disagree. Gordon comes in earlier than most and stays later than most. He works, extremely hard, in areas that one would rarely see other management. This, I guess, could be determined as negative in ways. Being payed manager money for doing what some are being payed near minimum wage. However, the hours he works, and he's not a manager of marketing accounting and others. He manages production areas! How better to manage your areas than to be part of it? When other managment are finished with their managment duties, do they help thier employees finish (the job.) Well, Gordon does... Also, he does make and enforce ideas for production to be efficient (money wise) as possible. These ideas, I'm sure you don't like. They envolve doing more with less. More with less. More with less. Well Gordon has a boss, and Irv has a boss and I fully believe that more with less is what is being enforced upon them... Understand that! Let's face it folks. Artco has not made money for years now. We are still open. Taylor Corp sees it fit to keep Artco running despite this. Why? One may ask. Well, Artco has an account like Storkie. We need it, but I think we don't make near as much money as we should on it due to how we marketed it... Don't make sense to me either but that's what I believe. Marketing has failed for years. I do think its starting to find its way however. By not chasing ghosts... Also Carlson Craft is a major contributor from the amazingness that are the Artco employees. They do not do the job that we do but get payed more. That statement is not fact but I sincerely believe it so. I do not want to get into that so much except for: Unfortunately we live in a bad spot for shipping. Carlson Craft does not. It is money to the Glen. Simply put: Someone is going to make $$$. Whose it going to be? Us? I don't know... But I believe without Gordon we all would be being payed by a different company.
ReplyDeleteand you probably had Gordon read your post
ReplyDelete"and you probably had Gordon read your post"
ReplyDeleteHAHAHA LOL - LIKE
I do agree that you don't make as much money on Storkie as you should. Trust me I'm the one that brought them in and proposed the pricing. Like the good business people that Storkie are they challenged our price and because Garth and Gordon wanted the jobs they agreed to what ever price Storkie asked for. It did me no good to fight it because they pulled the power trip.
Good times - Learned a lot - Glad to own my own company
